For many users with standard applications the Proteus Applications Processor from Chiron Technology can be used within a system with no additional software. However in other circumstances the integrator will wish to add software to tailor the system to his own requirements. In this way the need for two independent processors can be obviated.

For example, when the API is used in a telephone, the Proteus system can be modified to control the keypad, direct memory, LCD etc. This is especially pertinent where different display formats are required as these are all under the control of the integrator using the single Proteus processor.

In the data field the Proteus system can be used to develop further data applications or even to remove the current processor entirely and put the whole applications on a single processor. For example for an Alarm Panel that needs external communications, the alarm software can be integrated into the Proteus System. Similarly for an EPOS application a second processor and memory can be excluded.

The Proteus system in conjunction with its API can be used to build complete communications based systems which can be flexible as well as powerful and cost effective.
